Reading @jsnell installing a smart lock reminded me how front doors are different in the US and Europe/Germany.

Here, front doors can’t be opened without a keys (no outside doorknob) which gives you basic security but means you have to take your keys with you, always. (At some point we also need to talk about the terrible design of door knobs vs. door handles.)

@yatil Oh interesting! Until we got this lock we always had to take keys too... but I know what you're saying, the act of spinning the lock is what opens the latch and lets you go in the door.
