As a Safari and Firefox and only occasional Chrome user, I ask the same things. Less browser biodiversity threatens the fabric of the web.
As an Edge user I have a few thoughts on this rumor:
1. Browser features cost money to develop. It makes sense to cut losses.
2. What happens to Chakra?
3. How do we maintain browser diversity?
4. Is Chromium now the de facto determiner of web standards?
If those other features are more important than your rendering engine, why bother with it at all and not take one off the shelf(ish)?
